Congratulations
on selecting Pioneer Linux for your computer. If you're
replacing a Windows system you'll find that it's
not only easy to get acclimated, but once you start
using Pioneer you won't have to fight with fragmented
disks or registry problem or even viruses any longer.
If you're a community user, one who is using the free
download version, you have many community resources
open to you from forums to knowledge base articles.
If you a consumer who has purchased a copy, you have
the same community resources as well as the ability
to seek help from one of our partners. If you're using
Stagecoach (our combined enterprise server and workstation
product), you'll find more assistance on the knowledge
base and also at the MigrationSERVER pages by clicking
here.
Lets
review your new Pioneer operating system and see what
it looks like and how you find things!

Your
desktop
Your Pioneer desktop is laid out so you can easily
navigate from program to program or document to
document. You'll find the tools you're used to using
such as Instant Messaging for Yahoo, AIM, MSN and
others. A full office suite is preinstalled called
OpenOffice that allows you to exchange documents
with Microsoft Office in .doc and .xls users.
If you like burning CDs and DVDs you have K3b included
in your application as well as the option to get
Nero Linux 3 from us or a partner. You'll also find
we have many multimedia options and almost anything
you want available on your computer. Want to run
Windows applications you have? We have a product
called Electricity, that's powered by Wine-door
included also. Let's take a look at the menus next. |
 |
Your
menus
Pioneer
menus may appear similar to those you're accustomed
to in Windows but you'll find different
names of applications that have similar functions
and more applications included free with Pioneer.
If you click on the thumbnail, you'll notice that
the menu is displaying the Internet tools that
come with Pioneer. These tools include most things
you'll need such as a Firefox web browser, Internet
Dialup tools, Instant Messenger tools, remote
desktop connection tools and much more. You'll
also notice a menu for Office that includes all
the tools needed for office productivity at home
or office. Pioneer provides you with everything
you need to do your work and to make certain you
can do it easily. Ask a partner for assistance
if a walk-through is what you need.

Photos
from your digital camera
Everyone today uses digital cameras it seems,
and we all need to manage our photos. DigiKam
is preinstalled on your Pioneer applications and
allows you to setup albums and more. Since we've
all become more shutterbugs and snapping more
pictures, we felt that DigiKam is a perfect replacement
for Kodak tools and other Windows
tools that come with products for Windows
or that are sold for Windows. You'll find
yourself using DigiKam quickly and easily by just
plugging your USB camera into your USB port on
your computer. DigiKam will provide you with the
tools needed to manage and share your photos.

Your
new web browser
You're probably used to using Microsoft Internet
Explorer for surfing the web. You'll notice
that Firefox is the web browser included with Pioneer
and we just love it here as do our customers. But
like ice cream there are choices and you can install
other browsers such as Opera and even Internet Explorer
on your computer. Whatever the flavor you prefer
for a browser, just like ice cream, you have plenty
of choices! |

Burning
CDs and DVDs
Burning
CDs and DVDs are not that difficult using K3b
and what's more is it's included with our Pioneer
products. You'll have yourself burning your favorite
photos and photo albums in no time at all with
K3b. You'll also find that you can burn your favorite
music just like you did in Windows and not lose
time trying to figure out a new burning tool since
K3b is so simple to use, you'll be using it in
a minutes! Used to using Nero and don't want to
switch? You can always purchase a copy of Nero
in our store if you'd like or from one of our
partners.

Playing
your favorite music
You can play your CDs with Kaffine! You'll enjoy
the easy interface and you shouldn't have a problem
installing it. If you're used to running Real Player,
you can find it in the package manager and install
that and use what you're accustomed to. Either way,
you have the choice to run what you want when you
want to run it and listen to what you want when
you want to! |
